Day 7 ::Random Acts of Kindness:: 25 Days of Christmas

Here are three things that made me smile today...

1. This one is a little superficial, but I got a new laptop!!
2. Going to dinner with my family
3. The act of a young couple doing something kind for someone in need

The last one on that list really touched me. As I was driving to pick up my laptop, I passed a young couple getting out of their truck which was parked on the side of the road near a field. I noticed them because I thought that maybe their vehicle had broken down. I slowed down to see if they needed any help and that's when I noticed an older man all bundled up in grubby clothes, rolling up a sleeping bag. I watched as the couple approached the man and held out a grocery sack that I can only assume contained food. The homeless man extended his hand, and with a look of astonishment, he took the bag from the couple. Today was a very cold, frigid day. The wind chill probably made it feel about 7 degrees out, so to think that there really are people who have to live in those circumstances is pretty hard to swallow. This random act of kindness has not only benefited this homeless man, but me, as well.

I wonder what you and I could do today to make someone's life just a little more comfortable...think about it and then act on it. Random acts of kindness take little effort, but go so far for the people who receive them.

Today's sponsor is multi-talented. She's a digital scrapbooking designer who sells at Two Peas in a Bucket, but she also makes and sells beautiful (no, STUNNING) jewelry!! I was one happy girl on my last birthday because I was the lucky recipient of this beautiful necklace....thanks to my husband who took my subtle hints. Are sticky notes on the mirror and emails with links considered subtle??? Okay, so maybe they weren't so subtle, but it worked!!

Check out some of these lovelies that I am now coveting...
You could make someone really happy if they had one of these under the tree this year. Meredith wanted me to remind you that if you are shopping for Christmas gifts, the cut-off is December 15th, so be sure to get your order in SOON!!

Okay, here's what ONE seriously lucky winner will receive: a $25 gift card to her Etsy store!!!

To win:
1. Post about one random act of kindness that someone has done for YOU...let that inspire you (and me) to pay it forward. :)
2. Once again, if you tweet about this give-away and post another comment with the link, you get TWO entries.

Contest ends at 10:30 MST on Dec. 7. Good luck and see you tomorrow!!

We are currently renting a house in the town where we live, but we still own a house in our old hometown, about an hour away. After a couple of really bad windstorms last year, we were preparing to drive back to our hometown for clean-up, only to get a call telling us that our neighbors there had cleaned up all the tree limbs and storm debris from our yard.

Thanks for the cool giveaways -- this is awesome! I'll be mentioning everything on my blog tomorrow!

I was sick last week and couldn't make it to a party that I had really been looking forward to. A friend emailed me the next day to tell me I had been missed. She also mentioned that the hostess had set out a pretty tin for me and all the ladies present helped fill it up with goodies so that I would have a little Christmas cheer. I was really touched!

Recently my brother died and I had to go to my hometown, but the hubby and kids were not able to come with me. While I was gone, someone brought cinnamon rolls over, and some dinner too to help the ME out by taking care of my family that had to stay home----SO thoughtful!

We bought our house 4 years ago and the floor started to slope in the middle of the house and I live in MI and lost my job over a year ago and have not been able to obtain another so we live on my husband pay and times our tough. So my in-laws came to me to let me know they want to take care of the floor issue for us and I began to cry. Our love and our house are all we have so it was nice to have such wonderful in-laws and so this week we have had to estimators come out and our floor will be fixed. And I am forever grateful specially since the main beam of our house is broken in half from the weight of the house over the last 4 yrs. God Bless

This is an easy one... I have wonderful in-laws who visit often and always are so thoughtful to bring with them a nice bottle of wine or some special treat to go with dinner.

Thank you for featuring Meredith's jewelry! It is lovely and a great (and timely) gift idea for Christmas.

I can't forget this.. When I was doing my College of Dentistry I'm living all by myself and I did not have much money. I used to sell Sandwiches to pay for the bus and food!. The books are so expensive.. And one in special I HAD to have. Then, each one made a small contribution, and they bought the book for me.I was very very excited and have never forgotten that gesture of generosity.

One Christmas (20 years ago) we came home to find that all our gifts under the tree, and the gift cards tucked in our tree, had been stolen-that's all the robber took! My husband went to work the next day to find an envelope on his desk with a hefty check in it. One of his co-workers had found out what happened, and took a donation. Because of those generous people, my three little boys did have a Merry Christmas :) Thank you to those of you that gave. When I read this blog this morning-your kindness what the first thing that popped in my head.

A photographer friend took photos of my family for Christmas. It's so nice to have myself IN the photos this time!

My husband took care of all the kids snow clothes, boots, gloves, hats, etc. and made sure the floor got cleaned up so I didn't have to do it!

Once was totally stressed out with everything that was on my to do list. I had to run some errands and left the messy house in a big huff. I came back to a sparkly clean house because my husband had rallied the kids and cleaned up the entire house; bathrooms, dishes and even the toy room. So much of my stressed was lifted.

My husband is not able to shovel our snow due to health issues. Our neighbor always thinks of use and shovels our walkways.

My neighbor "kidnapped" my toddler for a few hours so I could have some quiet time with my newborn.

When I was in high school I moved around quite a bit until we finally settled in TX. We found a church and I got pretty involved in youth activities and such. My leader at that time I shared quite a bit with regarding my struggles and feeling alone because of moving so much. That is when she told me something that I have never forgotten..."Instead of asking God why you put me here, instead ask what you have planned for me here". If I had decided to move away and back to where my friends were I would not have met my husband and have the life that I have right now. I know that this is probably not the typical RAK, but for me it WAS!

Last week when checking out at the grocery store I couldn't for the life of me remember the pin number of my debit card. I had tried it so many times that I ended up needing to call the bank. The store worker asked the lady behind me if she didn't mind waiting while I tried to call our bank there in line. She was so sweet and told me to take as long as I needed. I had my 2 year old in the cart & my 6 month old in the sling & it was taking forever to get a real person on the phone. The lady behind me bought my little boy some crackers while we waited. After about 15 mins of going thru the automated system I got fed up and hung up my cell. At that point I was so embarrased & frustrated that I was just going to leave everything there...even my own bags that everything was bagged in. The store worker & the lady took the time to empty out all my bags for me so I could take them. And the store worker had another worker take all my things and hold them in the back cooler until the end of the day incase I could come back that day. I was able to and was so grateful to not have to worry about going thru the store all over again.

I can't think of any random things, but I do have great friends and family who help out without hesitation when asked.

I was an exchange student in Mexico while in college and barely spoke any Spanish. One of the friends I made in Mexico and her mother called a taxi to take me back to my host family's home and rode with me until I got to the front door. They paid for the taxi fare and refused to accept my offer to pay for the fare. Then, they proceeded to take the bus home in the rain to save money. The memory of their kindness will always remain with me.

My DH is a US Army soldier. He has been deployed 4 times (once to Afghanistan and 3 times to Iraq). We went out to dinner with our children at Logan's the night he returned from one of his tours to Iraq. We had our entire meal and desserts bought for us as a thank you for his service. The person paid the bill, wrote a note that said, "Thank you for your service and thank you to your family for supporting you as a soldier and the nation." It was the sweetest gesture and will definitely will never be forgotten.

a dear friend (though at the time only via phone and the net) of mine opened up her home to me when I unexpectedly had to travel home when my Dad was admitted to hospital for surgery...

She truly is a wonderful woman... who gives to everyone else in need... her budget is more than a little tight at the moment never the less she will make sure her kids have a great christmas... by forgetting herself...

should for whatever reason I win this... it is to her that I will pass the gift cert onto... she certainly deserves it...

I recently had a "girls day out." When I arrived back home, I found that my husband and children had pick up and vacuumed the living room and library, and my husband had fresh, homemade pizza just coming out of the oven. (It was very delicious, too!)

This will sound rather inconsequential, but yesterday it rained here in LA and the traffic was terrible, of course. There was an accident on the way to the grocery store and cars were backed up for blocks, all trying to merge down to one lane. No one was letting me in, until one kind soul finally gave me plenty of room and time. It was so nice and frankly, rather unusual...
