I have just finished reading The Angel's Cut by Elizabeth Knox. She is a Kiwi writer who also wrote The Vintner's Luck. It is about an angel whose wings have been cut off--and answers some of the questions raised in the first book. I loved it. A fun book is The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder (Rebecca Wells) who also wrote the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (I think that's the title). Hope you get inspired!

I am such a voracious reader. All my life I've been miserable if I don't have a book to read. Anything by Karen Kingsbury is excellent reading, especially her 'Baxter' series. Currently, on my Kindle I have the two newest Patricia Cornwell books and Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult. Of course, anything by Nicholas Sparks or James Patterson is always a welcome read!

My favorite all-time book is "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" by Carson McCuller; however, I am absolutely STUCK on the Sookie series. I read all nine books in 6 weeks and absolutely can't wait for the next one due to come out in May. I just finished "Sleeping Arrangements" by Madeline Wickham, which was pretty good.

Michelle said...

I'm actually re-reading Harvesting the Heart by Jodi Piccoult. I love this book.

Lately, I have started and not finished a lot of books. I love to read and just haven't found anything to keep my interest. I'll check out some of these recommendations. Right now, I am TRYING to read The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. I loved the other two books in this series so hopefully this one will be good too!

My favorite book is Emma, by Jane Austen. :)

"The Wet Nurse's Tale" - I read about it in "People" and picked it up on vacation as a treat. Found my self staying up late to finish it (as did my friends, who also read it).

I just read (again!) Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It is a Christian book based on the book of Hosea and is a powerful depiction of the love Christ has for us...no matter how much we fail Him.

I've just read "The Hunger Games" and its sequel, "Catching Fire". YA books, but good. Also really liked "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society".

My go-to read over and over books are still Harry Potter.

Sarah Haddox said...

hmm...well i did just read "your best birth" by ricki lake, and i highly recommend it to anyone who is going to have kids in the future!

iamb said...

This is an old book but I loved reading it and still think of and refer to it often. Clan of the Cave Bear. I liked how she interwove known sites, fossils and activities with the fictionalized story. And for me personally, one of the women was an herbalist healer and it was so interesting to read all of that.

iamb said...

I just have to say ' how funny'! After I posted I looked through some of the other posts and see Clan of the Cave Bear mentioned!! I would have never guessed that!!

I personally read a lot of young adult books...lol, so in addition to Twilight, one of my favorite series is the Private series. Love them!

I've been reading a lot of YA novels this year. I have to agree that the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins is my favorite of the year so far. I also enjoyed the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare (kind of sci-fi/fantasy), or the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. The Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz is great, as well. The Princess and the Hound was another surprisingly good read for me, by Mette Ivie Harrison.

Stef said...

I just finished up the Banned and Banished series by James Clemens and it was SO GOOD...I was sad for it to end.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. It's a children's chapter book (easy read) and a good one to get you in the spirit of Christmas.

Ummm, I'm a mommy of three preschoolers and can't remember the last book I read that I actually chose myself, so I'll just post that the last book I read was Green Eggs and Ham. LOL!

It's a bit grim and it's not particularly new, but The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak is a fabulous book that tells the story of life in Nazi Germany from the view point of a little girl who lived there. It's sentimental and sweet and the characters really come to life so the pages whiz by. Try reading something different for a change. YOu won't regret it!

Ok I have not read a book in quite a while the last was the twilight saga but I just bought the next booke of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon- "An echo in the Bone" The only thing is I bought it for my SIL for Xmas and hope she does not mind me reading it first, or would that be wrong...

Hal's Wife said...

One of my favorite books of all time was published in the early 90s, Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon. Part historical, part time travel, part romance --- in a perfect blend of intrigue that makes it nearly impossible to put down. The story is continued beautifully in sequels that are still being released at present (2009). As a librarian with ready access to thousands of books, I very rarely purchase any -- this one and its sequels hit my personal shelves upon publication! :) Cheers - MCK

I am reading the classic "The Woman in White" right now. I can't put it down!

The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold

It's told from the perspective of a murdered 14yo girl who was raped and killed by her new nieghbour. It goes through all her insights into her family post-murder, and she watches from above how her family is torn apart from the tragedy. And she also sees what happens to her murderer, who, by the way, befriends her clueless dad.
It's really, really sad but it makes you wonder who's watching over you "from above"
